I’m a science journalist and fiction writer living in Victoria, British Columbia, the traditional and unceded territories of the lək̓ʷəŋən -speaking peoples, and of the Songhees, Esquimalt, and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples whose historical relationships with the land continue to this day.
Right now I’m freelancing and working on my next book projects.
Previously, I was the staff writer and researcher for Hakai Magaizne, where I covered ocean and coastal science around the world. That’s where I became fascinated by sound under water.
I’ve also worked for the Ottawa Citizen, the University of Victoria, and the Science Media Centre of Canada.
If I’m not writing, I’m probably hiking, figure skating, or trying to wrangle a new recipe in the kitchen!
