“Nintu shall mix clay
With his flesh and his blood.
Then a god and a man
Will be mixed together in clay.
Let us hear the drumbeat forever after,
Let a ghost come into existence from the god's flesh,
Let her proclaim it as his living sign,
And let the ghost exist so as not to forget (the slain god).”

-Atrahasis, Sumerian flood myth

(The ghost existed so as not to forget)

(Later, when humans had become numerous, the gods grew irritated by their sound: and destroyed them not for their pride, but because of the deafening riot of all their heartbeats.)

**

Asemic writing: a form of writing without any unit of meaning or any semantic content

(If bees dance patterns and fish build sand shapes and Sumerian evolved from pictures in clay then the only difference between writing and dancing is the difference between a body and a hand and the coherence of air, sand, and clay)

**

Ate: the Greek goddess of delusion and folly. Also a term used to describe the actions a hero takes in pride that bring about their demise.

“She ached in my mind like a choice abstraction.” - Lawrence Durrell, TUNC
